OOC: Ugh, my computer's doing someting weird, won't let me in. The red-furred fieldmouse regained his cool, and took a sizable handful (for a mouse) of the candied chestnuts. He listened respectfully as the others talked about their fearsome ancestry, smiling as Rue ruffled the weasel's headfur. Evidently these blokes were good friends. "Hear, hear. I ain't got no ancestors that were much to spit at, but that doesn't make me less of a person."

*Ffasma grins at Rue's affection, her eye sparkling, but wincing slightly as the badger applied her weight. She was feather, that was for sure! Turning to Korren, she watched him intently and allowed her smile to grow wider. Tentatively, she reaches out a paw and gives the mouse a playful shove, quickly drawing it back, her smile fading ever so slightly.* I'm sure it does not. *Clearing her throat, the ferret glances around at the three.* I am not sure what you would classify my ancestors as...

Releasing Ranjit, Rue nods at Korran. "Of course it doesn't...as I just said, ancestors are absolutely no means of judging a beast. I mean, only a few generations ago, the concept of a badger bein' pals with vermin, so to speak, would have been absolute anathema and taboo. Wouldn't even have been thought of." Looking over at Ffasma, she grins. "Probably beasts o' the same blood as you, Commander- fearsome horde captains, to be feared and respected."

"Aye, probably brave an' perilous beasts, as they call 'em at Salamandastron, I hear." said the mouse, nibbling at the last chestnut in his paw.

"Salamandastron...it's been a long time since I've heard that name..." Rue said, her eyes misting over a little. Try as she might, Rue couldn't eliminate the ugly little voice inside her head that said, Brave and perilous, hah! Filthy, cowardly, bullying vermin scum, more like. She shook her head hard. Stop it!she muttered angrily to herself.
A moment later, though, it had all but faded from Rue's mind, as she popped another couple chestnuts into her mouth.

We should probably now change the subject. Ranjit thought as he saw the look of fierce, raw, anger in the eyes of Rue. He knew that it would be bad for him if she saw him as a vermin. He was though but he only did it for the treasure that it might bring him.
"So are you guys ready to fight if someone threatens to disrupt our lives."

Rue, meanwhile, had calmed down considerably- though a dark look remained in her eyes, and her badgerly instinct would never quite go back into hibernation, having been permanently awoken.
At the moment, though, Rue wasn't feeling particularly murderous. She grinned at Ranjit. "Of course, matey. To the death."

*Ffasma studied Rue with a ruthless, piercing gaze, guessing the reason for the hardness in her eyes. Shifting, the ferret stared a moment longer and then averted her stare, trying to shake her own feelings of distrust and paranoia from her mind. If there was one thing Ffasma was good at, it was observation...and if there was one thing she WASN'T good at, it was social situations. She felt she had been doing pretty good...until this. Luckily, Ranjit saved any more of Ffasma wallowing by changing the subject. Looking thoughtful, Ffasma nodded her head.*
I do believe I would risk my life for the Horde...it is such a...such a pleasant abode. *She gives a small smiles to Korren, Ranjit, and Rue, trying to recover from her bout of paranoia. Still, the larger part of Ffasma had taken a great liking to Rue...to all of the beasts in the Horde, and she found that making friends was getting easier.*
OOC: Sorry if that doesn't make sense/sounds Sueish... >.> <.<

When Korren saw the effect his remark had had on Rue, and got the gist of her muttered statement, pure, unadulterated fear came into his eyes. He'd heard about what happens when badgers get angry. You idiot, he thought. Talking about that in front of a badger! Just how green are you, Korren?
Needless to say, he was thoroughly relieved when Ranjit changed the subject.
"Yeah, I'd die for the Horde, readily. You guys have become a second home for me. First home, actually,"
Having successfully confused himself, the mouse went back to nibbling his chestnuts. Finding none in his paw, he grabbed another handful.

Rue smiled distractedly back at Ffasma. The badger had come to grow extremely fond of her fellow hordebeasts, in spite of herself, but still, she shivered when she recalled the murderous rage that had threatened to overcome her senses. Nothing like that had ever happened to her before. It was totally inexplicable. She shuddered. She was a perfectly ordinary, peace-loving, woodland badger, nothing more.
Rue looked up at Korren, a faraway look in her eyes. "First home, you say. Where do you come from, Korren?" She picked up another chestnut and nibbled on it, but she wasn't really hungry anymore.

"I grew up on the road; me parents wandered, and when they got sick of me, I wandered away from them. Never really knew a real home, just the shelter I used that night. But it was a great life; you could sleep in, and eat when you wanted to, and wander when you felt like it, but you never settled down."
Korren smiled, remembering the good old days. "But, now, I think I'm ready to stay in one place for a while. Wandering for too long sometimes makes me feel insane."

The badger nods, propping her chin up on her paws. "Sounds like you've had a tough life. You're right, it's not good to wander out one's days- one has to settle down somewhere, sometime. Not to be nosy, but why did your parents throw you out?"

Korren gulped down a chestnut. This had always been a touchy subject for him to talk about.
"Don't know, really. Me dad never really liked me, never really liked anybeast. So, one night, I'm on me own. But I don't like talking about it. Too many beasts have a tough life, and talk about it all the time, to prove that they're warriors, or to get everybeast else to start sobbin' for 'em. I don't like bragging."

*Ffasma feels more than a touch of respect for Korren. Ffasma remembered hearing more than one beast in her tribe brag about how he had been thrown out by his parents and had fended for himself (generally the tales were exaggerated). Ffasma nodded in agreement at Korren and then at Rue. Taking another chestnut and examining it, she voices a question.* Do you plan to stay here for the rest of your days? Or would you like to go wandering again? *The ferret didn't have an answer to this question, but she was curious to see if others did.*

Korren didn't really have an answer to Ffasma's question either, but, communicating that to others? It was tough.
"Oh, I dunno. Maybe if they allow us to go on vacations here, I could wander about then. Catch a boat, and go sightseeing in Mossflower, maybe. But only for a vacation."

Ranjit's ears perked up at the mention of a boat. "If you need a boat I could sail a bit with you. I made one a few seasons back." Ranjit smiled. He liked to help other beasts. It gave him a sense of self worth that he couldn't find from any other source.

Grabbling another pawful of chestnuts, Korren shoved a couple in his mouth.
"So Ranjit," he said, between mouthfuls, "what was your early life like, mate?"

Ranjit's smile faded. He didn't like his early life. He had changed since then. "I was a brat of the mayor of a small village. I was really spoiled. I formed a gang and we terrorized the village and our rival villages. It wasn't good but that's all changed."
