Fundamentalism is basically taking the bible word for word. I think it's absolutely bogus, considering I'm agnostic, kind of atheist. It's hard to take the bible word for word anyway because (I haven't read it, so I might get these things wrong) according to the bible, Noah lived to be 700 years old or something. Even bible-thumpers shouldn't be that thick (no offense meant). About all of the political things... I'm very much liberal (or at least everyone TELLS me I am) so I'm really open to change. Especially the changing of a president. Good thing that Bush can't be reelected now that he's gotten his second term. I can't believe anyone would reelect him anyway. Are they crazy? I once sent a three page letter to Bush... of course I got a picture of him and a form letter back. Anyway, I hit almost every topic. I rambled on (of course) about things like him wanting to ban abortion. If he did that... if he could, of course, he would just be causing more harm than good. He would make women do what they did before, go to Mexico and get one done with nasty, rusty tools and they could end up dying! With gay marriage, people should have the right to tell the one they love that they do, no matter their sexuality. If a church doesn't want to preform the service, they don't have to. Gay marriage should be able to be legalized in the courts, though. My mom and dad didn't get married in a church! So why can't homosexual couples do the same? The thing with communism, is that it was meant to be a good idea. Niccolo Machiavelli even suggested dictatorship. ALL bad ideas were meant to be GOOD. All Machiavelli wanted to do was to unite Italy so they could run off their enemies. Communism probably was a solution to a similar problem. I certainly don't support it, though.

Dictatorship would be the ideal solution...providing the dictator was benevolent, and stayed that way. But right there we run into problems.
And yeah, communism works in theory. But in practice...?
Anarchy would work, but it would take a long time for it to do so.
Democracy is still the best government for this day and age, I think. People may say they hate it now, but if you were living under a anarchist or dictatorship society, you would be screaming for democracy. So saying it's stupid is just being stupid yourself, because it's not. It's the only form of government that functions properly in the western world.

Fundamentalism isn't just restricted to Christianity. It's an extremism that deals with all religions and worldviews. Extreme adherence. And Noah did live to be really old. Maybe not 700, but at least 600 or so. When the earth was young, there weren't the diseases caused by human creations and there was also less people.
I mean, you can choose not to believe in something. That's your choice, everyone has free will. It's kind of like saying I don't believe in semi trucks. I could still get run over by one. I know that's a little extreme, but have you ever asked yourself if what the Bible says is true. Now I know some people haven't read it, and I'm not saying believe what every God-fearing Christian church goer tells you. What I'm saying is read it for yourself.
It has some parts that are weird and a little odd. (Like the Old Testament and the Jewish ways of life), but there are some cool battles and the New Testament clears up quite a few issues. All I'm saying is: read it for yourself. It's not the all time best selling book for nothing.

Dirk, the thing about democracy is that in the United States (as I'm used to hearing about the government) democracy isn't REALLY democracy. Especially with Bush in office. I don't think that democracy doesn't work in other places, I'm just saying that at this time, Bush is using the democracy to make laws that fit in with his religious and ideal thoughts (AKA: No Child Left Behind [what a crock of poo], The Patriot Act [as if it's really patriotic], etc.), which I consider wrong. I don't know if it's true in Canada or all of those other places, but America was formed by people who wished to not be persecuted by their religious beliefs, but at this time, Bush seems to completely ignore our country's past.
Besides, Parliament works absolutely fine in the UK. It's very similiar to Democracy, but people are wiser about who they choose to be Prime Minister because they serve for life. Considering America at this time, I would never suggest Parliament for our government, because the propaganda just seems to make people stupider in their decisions and we would end up with an idiot in office until someone decided to shoot him or her.
And I'm aware that fundamentalism doesn't just stick to Christianity, but it is more common where I live to have Christians believe in every word in the bible. I stick to regular fairy tales about princesses and princes. I also prefer not to read something so long and tedious. I don't like boring novels.

Distopias are soooo much more fun to read about.
Long and tedious? what you find long and tedious happens to be your decicion. (with the exception of Math textbooks)
And I thought the rebellion was sparked by Taxes......
Anyway, Bush isn't going to change the whole of America(jsut as well, too), Humanism and stuff like that is much too deeply ingrained into the legal system, and into the people themselves. It's Vaguely Simeler to Australia, except there's, much less people to go around.
