Fearclaw waded through the shallow water as quietly as possible, making her way towards the shore, where about a score of the crew awaited her. The light rowboat that had brought her over returned to the ship, anchored a short distance off of the secluded section of beach. Fearclaw turned to watch it go, making sure it made it safely back to the Xjasdo without making too much noise. Satisfied that it had gone unnoticed, she stepped onto the wet sand, and approached the large hunk of driftwood where the rest of the guards had stationed themselves. Placing her hands on her hips, she surveyed the area. Just a normal beach. She could see no signs of other beasts about at this time, which was all for the better. If everything went well, the ship wouldn't be found, and could provide a quick escape for the rest of the invasion force. The journey in had been conducted smoothly.
The raiders had headed towards the town in small boats, and Fearclaw had taken control of the ship from there, anchoring near the beach as Sabac had ordered. Yes, there was no reason at all why the rest of the mission wouldn't go smoothly. What were the chances that somebeast would be wandering around at this time of night? Even if the ship was found and attacked, Fearclaw and her small group of fighters could easily hold them off and escape back to the Xjasdo, which, if the rowboat wasn't fast enough to ferry them back, was in swimming distance. And anyway, most of the Horde would be preoccupied enough with the raid.
Speaking of which, the Greatrat now began to hear noise. Screams, panicked screams, delighted yells of her companions...someone was sounding the alarm for the rest of the Horde. And then...Fearclaw nearly jumped out of her skin. A roar. A loud, bloodcurdling one, one that could only belong to a warrior in a primal state of bloodlust. A badger, maybe? Or a wolverine, Fearclaw realized, smiling slightly. She craned her neck to get a better view of the general area of the raid. Sure enough, the sky was a dull red. The Greatrat turned to the rest of the vermin keeping watch over the Xjasdo. They had made themselves comfortable, not expecting anything to bother them over the course of the night. Fearclaw suddenly wasn't so sure. Turning back to the town, she leaned back against the driftwood and fingered the hilt of her saber. Her gray fur rippled in the cool breeze, and her dark brown eyes flitted about the beach suspiciously. On a night like this, no one could ever be very sure...
