[The returning traveler]

So many moons since I have been here, thought the small. cloaked figure hunched over a table near the door. I wonder what my mates have been up to.

Everything about the place, despite the trademark dinginess of a warriors' barracks and the surrounding terrain, smacked of home, or whatever home was supposedly like. The saloon certainly hadn't changed much; at the moment, it was going through one of the rare quiet afternoons available for such an establishment. Junda, the tough old vixen who minded the bar, had apparently relaxed her characteristic defensive slouch over the counter and was now chatting with a pretty female wildcat who acted as a server.

Everything seemed the same, but, after months of being absent, the traveler wanted to see what was different. All he had to do was wait for another patron to enter...

Rinafera could only watch. The old soldier who fought with him more than two seasons ago walked into the saloon and graced the Horde with his presence once again. The hare stood there, mesmerised at why anybeast would want to leave and suddenly decide to return. He got up, walking over to the cloaked figure. Rinafera did not know who the figure was, but he as sure as heck knew that it was a friend from a long time ago.

"Soldier, yes, you. I'm bally ordering you to state your name and flippin' rank in this here Horde! In case you were wondering," the sare said as he got closer, a whip of hostility leaving his mouth, "I'm Colonel Woxwitty, and you will address me as such. Now, chap, what are you doing back?" A smile cursed his lips and he hoped the soldier did not know that he was kidding.

Colonel Woxwitty? thought the traveler, giving the hare a quick glance from ears to toes. Bit obnoxious, but I guess that's only to be expected from an officer who's a hare. And anyway, I like obnoxious.

The mouse lept to his feet, straightening his back and throwing his paw into a salute. True military fashion; I guess I haven't lost it yet.

"Aye, aye, colonel," he yelled, his shrill voice obviously deepened since his days in the Horde, but easily recognizable with its moderate Borderland accent. "Private Korren Greeneyes, reportin' back for duty, sah!"
