After Ty had recieved his second in command, he figured hey, why notg et the place in good condition for those new comers, that way they don't leave right away.
His first objective: clean the barracks. Obviously, Ty thought it was going to be easy. Straighten things up, give the place a new feel; the horde had been deserted, how bad could it be?
As soon as Ty stepped into the barracks, a fowl odor swam into his nostrils. Grabbined his nose, he shook his head and glared at the place. Maggots, ants, termites....the place had really went down a few knotches hadn't it? " Hmm, I think I'm gunta want some help here..." He mumbled.

Now that the town was swarming with beggars, muggers, lepers, assassins, crazy people and pirates, Typh was avoiding the place. It had always been swarming with beggars, muggers, lepers, assassins, crazy people and pirates, but it was worse now. Erksta had been stabbed to death in the tavern, which was traditionally a safe(r) place for Hordebeasts, seeing as there were always Hordebeasts in there. Unable to visit the town for fear of meeting an untimely end at the point of a dagger, the badger was wandering around the fort with nothing to do. As he neared the Ontarian Division's quarters, he spotted Ty go into one of the barracks. Curious, Typh followed him in.
"Hey, Ty, what're you doing h..." The badger caught a whiff of the odour of seasons-old excrement, filth, rotting wood and rancid meat, let out a string of expletives in his native tongue and retreated outside the door.
"I take it we should do something about that before anyone actually has to sleep here..."

Ty followed his higher rank out the door, still holding his nose. He shook his head in disgust and removed his paw from his nose, deciding he just wouldn't breath through his nose for now. " Yeah, I think we may 'ave to, or any recruits will flee from this place asap..." Ty replied with a slight chuckle.
" But hey, then again, it's a challenge, and if we make some o' the recruits do some work, they'll atleast be dsiciplined yah know?" Ty proposed, looking at the tall badger.
Though...then again...I think the recruits would rather die than clean that up....

Mirima came walking up with a bucket and a shovel. She had a hankie tied around her face covering only her nose and mouth. She looked quite funny but held her chin up and walked past the guys. When she stepped through the thresh hold she set the bucket down and worked on getting the windows opened but couldn’t seem to get them to budge.

Typh nodded and sighed. Having made the journey all the way to the Horde, and with the Colonels trying so hard to get new soldiers to arrive, it would be a shame for the new recruits to leave just because of these horrible living conditions. Watching Mirima struggling to open the window from the inside, the badger sighed again.
"Mirima has the right spirit; the rest of them won't even step near this place. Come on, let's help her."
Moving towards the window from the outside, Typh pulled out his sabre, called out to the squirrel in the barracks to tell her to watch out, and smashed the filthy glass with the butt of his weapon. The smell hit him again, and he quickly stepped back.
"dang window never could open."

Mirima shook her head, “that’s one way to get it done. It’s going to take a while for the smell to fade.” Mirima got the bucket of water and started wiping down the beds. She soon found the main cause of the stench and pile of rotten food was wasting away under a mattress. Mirima tried to move the mattress but it was too heavy and she passed out from the smell it was really strong there.

Ty nodded in agreement at Typh's words, and watched as the squirrel maiden went to work. She was definately proving herself in his eyes. He gave a slight smile, but immediately frowned, seeing her pass out. " Oh jeez...I'll get her..." He sighed, walking over, holding his nose. Once he arrived at the maid's side, he could've sworn he was going to pass out once he felt dizzy, but luckily grabbed her and dragged her back and out of the room.

After a few minutes Mirima woke. “What happened?” She got up but was feeling light headed so she put her paw on the wall. When her head cleared she went right back in avoiding the area she passed out in after dumping out the bucket of water and refilling it several times the one bunk she had been working on was starting to look livable. “What happened to this place? I mean what was it like when you were first here?” Mirima asked who ever was listening.

Ty smirked at Mirima's questions. What it was truly like it actual prime, still brought butterflies to Ty' stomach. How he wished it was like the stories he was told. Unfortunately, when Ty had first came to the Horde, it was great, but still not at its former glory. The mix rat sighed, standing up from his spot where he was scrubbing the floor. " Well, that's an interestin' question. When I first came, 'ere, it was prolly much more diff'erint than when Typh did. When I first came I was in my mid-young seasons(this means probably an older teenager.) That, was only a few seasons ago!(obviously why he's only just leaving teenage years). Now, when I 'ad first come, it was sorta lively, nothin' like this. I've 'eard stories of when this place was one o' the most feared armies. I'm assuming, that sometime after I was taken, beasts started leavin' fer their own causes, and thus, the place was deserted." Ty explained.

"Go on." Mirima pleaded as she finished the first bunk. She couldn't believe her eyes when it was done. The bunk was made of oak there were carvings that some beast had done when he was bored on being punished. The name of the craftsmen and the year it was made was on the bottom of the foot board. The board that held the feather stuffed mattress had rotted and the mattress was covered in mold.

Typh was silent. His eyes seemed to mist over and somehow see past the rotting wooden walls of the barracks and back in time, to the time when he had just arrived on the island fortress almost eight seasons ago. Back then, the Horde was just another random band of creatures. The fort had just been completed a season ago, and everyone was somehow filled with a sense of hope, of anticipation of a glorious future, and of dreams of a beautiful tomorrow. The first two leaders were visionaries, and started the Horde on its way to becoming a major power. The road was hard, and many left to seek greener pastures, but the Horde finally succeeded, and reached its zenith under the third leader, Dirk Thornclaw. During its golden age, the Horde ruled the waves around its island, beat back two invasions, and attained the status of a regional power. Then Typh left to visit his homeland. He returned to find a totally different Horde. Better than its current state, but not by much. The Horde Leader was almost assassinated, many left and never returned, and sea vermin began to infest the town. Fortunately, some stayed, and they managed to turn the place around, thus ushering the Horde into its second, smaller golden age.
Then... It was too painful to think about. Tears began to well up in Typh's eyes. The degeneration of what had formerly been so great somehow made the old badger want to cry. When he finally tried to speak, he opened his mouth, but no words came out. Finally, he managed to say something. His voice was hoarse and toneless, but still audible.
"This place... was nothing like this. Ty arrived during our second golden age... Our first... "
The badger's voice faded away and tears streamed down his cheeks, which he quickly wiped with the sleeve of his tunic.
OOC: Rather melodramatic, but this place really was that great.
