The debate's actually been going on for quite a while now, but it's only recently been brought to our attention.
Anyway, your opinions? Should we tighten border security against Mexico/what should be done with the aliens already in the US/etc?

Send them to Area 51!
*badum ching*
Being Canadian, I suppose I have the right to not care what y'all do with your illegal immigrants. People go to first-world countries like America because it's the land of the free. You should feel flattered they all want to crowd into your country.
That would be my Socialist mind speaking. Let's check in on the Conservative mind.
Shove 'em all into the army for a year or five. Educate them while there, I suppose, so that if they do make it out alive they'll become respectable citizens of the country.

I think that we should educate the one's we have but tighten border patrol then the one's here can take the test and be legal citizens.

It's kind of screwed either way- we can't boot them out, as Mexico can't really handle a sudden population growth of about 1.2 million people, but it'd be hard to let them stay, as well.
Hmm. *scratches head*

Build an island out of them. In the Carribean. It can become your official 53st state. (After Puerto Rico and Iraq)

Sigh. Why do Americans have to segregate themselves so much? "I'm a Republican", "I'm a Democrat" etc. One's as bad as the other in my opinion.
Seriously, everyone's beliefs vary and change. I can be very Socialist on some things, and extremely Conservative on the other. Americans always have to be one or the other, it seems to me, in an outside point of view. I hate political parties period, because what if you don't agree with all the stances and platforms? Are you still going to vote for them?
And Rova, lots happens in Canada, American media just doesn't care.

Oh, sorry, Leggy. But still, you gotta admit, the American presidency has seen its better days.

The American Presidency has seen worse days too, though.
For the record, John Kerry was a horrible choice too, I think. Definitely should've gone Nader.

*Says something totally out of the blue*
We had an election recently... 1st time in what, 16 years that the ruling party wasn't returned to power on Nomination day... Still, they swept 82 out of 84 constituencies.
Anyway, aliens in America are none of my business. In that case, what am I doing in this thread? Because i'm a busybody.

In my own opinion Bush screwed up his first term, although so far his second term has been pretty quiet. Guess 'cause he figured he'd lose the next election so did everything he wanted to in his first term. And you know what's interesting, now, when Bush isn't invading any countries or anything, his popularity polls are slipping dramatically - show's just how bloodthirsty Americans are, I guess.
Clinton, in hindsight, was actually not that bad, barring the scandal of course. Come to think of it, most Presidents seem a lot better when looking in retrospect.
And yes, Canadians are liberals. We're practically socialists. Our right-wing party is right beside your left-wing party on the political spectrum. America is a very Conservative country, Canada is very Liberal.

Please, please, please tell me you're kidding. Aside from the scandal (who really cares about his personal life, anyway? that's his business.), I'll quote from an unbiased source: During the administration of William Jefferson Clinton, the U.S. enjoyed more peace and economic well being than at any time in its history...He could point to the lowest unemployment rate in modern times, the lowest inflation in 30 years, the highest home ownership in the country's history, dropping crime rates in many places, and reduced welfare rolls. He proposed the first balanced budget in decades and achieved a budget surplus. In the world, he successfully dispatched peace keeping forces to war-torn Bosnia... He became a global proponent for an expanded NATO, more open international trade, and a worldwide campaign against drug trafficking. Whereas, our current president has managed to land us more than 8 trillion dollars in debt (from an orginal surplus, of 127 billion), a never-ending, unprovoked, war, a stock-market that's gone right down the toilet, a major cut of health benefits and health insurance, for veterans, and Americans in general, etc. etc. etc. Whah. Do forgive me, I'm ranting. >_< But still. How can you possibly maintain that Bush was a better president than Clinton?? o_0 @_@

Well Rova, people look for different things in a President. If you like having the government leading your country to concentrate on invading other countries to "establish peace" instead of keeping the people back home off the streets, then Bush is perfect. After all, people who end up on the streets obviously aren't working hard enough to earn money for them and their family. Now, if you couldn't catch the sarcasm in that.... (Although, the first sentance was sincere) Bush has done a great job of doing what he wanted to do. The people are frightened that terrorists are after them. Because everyone knows terrorists like to bomb your little suburban home with its Capitalist white picket fence. 9/11 has been the ONLY Terrorist attack on American soil in years and years. More people die from slipping in the bathtub than terrorist attacks, if we exclude 9/11. Are we going to ban bathtubs too? And Bush has managed to twist this fear to his advantage to make the common man fear the second largest religion in the world. And if you're wondering just how well he managed to make the populace fear terrorism, well, he managed to slip the Patriot Act by you, and has the legal right to LISTEN TO YOUR TELEPHONE CALLS. Isn't privacy a right of some kind? For that matter, isn't freedom? Not anymore. Ooh, love ranting, I'll continue later And any pro-Bush people, please note I'm not attacking your beliefs, I'm pointing out my own opinion. Feel free to do the same to me.

I guess I could be considered a democrat (live in California, after all).
I don't like war. Period. I don't like politics either.
So...I didn't support the Iraq war, no. I still don't. And I don't really like this wiretapping thing either. Yes, I fully realize that they will only be listening to calls from outside the country, but the thing that is really disturbing about it is that Bush was able to claim authority that wasn't his, as President of the U.S.
But umm...getting on topic, I don't really know what to make of this whole immigrant thing.
And Leggy, I hate to quote political bumber stickers, but I must..."When Bush lied, people died."
*joins Rova hurling in bush*
Bleh. I hate doing that. Never mind that. But it's true, Clinton lied about a personal affair, while Bush's mistakes cost this country some serious money.
